Argyll & The Islands has
a huge amount on offer, both in terms of historic
interest and education, beauty and inspiration,
tranquility and relaxation. West Loch Shores Tarbert
is an ideal place central to all that is worth
exploring throughout Kintyre, Argyll & The Islands
such as Gigha, Arran and Islay.
Kintyre.
Tarbert, the closest main village with its
population of approximately 2,500 has a fully working
fish quay with a moderate fleet of fishing boats,
with excellent harbour facilities for people who
visit by boat. There is plenty to see here including
the famous Tarbert Castle ruin, atop a hill overlooking
the harbour.
Campbeltown, is roughly 35 miles south of West
Loch Shores Tarbert and is Kintyre's main town.
With a larger array of shops and a vast amount
of places to explore at the Mull Of Kintyre, Campbeltown
has plenty to offer.
Carradale, on the east side of Kintyre has a wonderful
beach and has a small 9 hole golf course, compared
to Campbeltowns two 18 hole courses of Dunaverty
and Machrihanish. Only a few miles north of Carradale
is Skipness, which is home to a huge castle and
a fantastic piece of coastline.
The Islands
Arran, 'Scotland in miniature' is a great day
out, catching the ferry from Skipness with fantastic
hills, and another good golf course.
Islay, Jura and Gigh are all accessible from the
West coast of Kintyre, with the fantastic gardens
and small population of 'God's Island' (Gigha)
to the famous whisky from Jura and Islay.
